Most of us are on maintenance goals, except my sister with 2 lbs weight loss from last month, and Terri, Tim and Mike, who are on Injured Reserve. Happy Pre-Thanksgiving!
Aloha, Fit Friends!
No doubt we are all preparing for a great Turkey Day on Thursday. And as we all look forward to spending time with family and friends, and enjoying fantastic meals, the ultimate dilemma occurs for us---do we totally pig-out on Thanksgiving (take our one day off for the week on this special holiday) or ease up a little and do a little portion control??? Since I haven't been able to exercise with normal frequency recently, I think (hope?) I will try to take a little less on the first serving, and try to slow down on the intake. Easy to say, so hard to do!
Any other secrets you can share with the group? Let us know!
But whatever the case, enjoy this holiday week...we all deserve it....as a group we have worked so hard, and achieved so much! I am proud and thankful to be associated with such a dedicated and hard working group as ours.

Saturday Results Are In and They are Great!
As we all have come to expect, everyone who has reported in has attained their monthly goal again! Awesome! And I know it was especially tough this month, talking with some of you and reading your texts and emails. See Results below.
Safety, Care and......Age? Please be careful everyone as I know we are all pushing ourselves physically each day, and just having some amazing ytd results. The pounds lost and progress made has been simply incredible and inspiring. That said, we have quite a few on the mend in our group, so please be careful. We are all in for the long term. Remember that. Couldn't have anything to do with age, huh? Nah! (Denial! or is it strong will to succeed?). And along this line, if you have any remedies, helpful solutions, medications, alternative healing methods...please share.
Injury update: Mike had his MRI on leg on Saturday....will find out more soon. I am having an MRI on my shoulder/bicep today (don't ask...it's an embarassing story). Terri reports that her next months goal may have to be modified to frozen shoulder problem. If anyone else has to go on Injured Reserve, let me know....and please call if you find out where we can find the stop aging pill!

Since holiday season is upon us for the next two months, it would be still a good achievement (not great according to leader, Mike, but okay) to MAINTAIN your existing weight, or your existing number of workouts. So consider that.....I know I am in for that, and Rick too! Steph is still going for 2lb loss, and some are still deciding. Just let me know.....talk to you all soon!
BTW, Mike and I have officially made 1 Year of doing this! And although we are both injured at this point due to activity incidents (bball game for him, running fall for me), we are truly greatful for our results this year:
me---18 lbs lost, Mike--30 lbs lost!

Injury and SIckness Hiatus Update
Just so everyone knows....Mike is on Injury Reserve because of his knee injury(MRI not till end of Nov) and Lisa has been sick for over two weeks, so these two members are not reporting in results for November Goal Day.

Day Early Clause!
Aloha, Everyone!
The Executive Committee for our Group (Mike and me! :-) ) has decided to establish a "day early clause" to our Saturday Goal Date for this week, Sept 3rd. Because Saturday mornings, well, afternoons too, are often so busy now with our childrens' events, we have decided to let anyone who qualifies on Friday before Goal Saturday to count their weight or fitness goal if achieved anytime on the Friday before Goal Saturday. This way, we achieve our objective of fitness, and accomodate all of our busy schedules. And, we can party on Friday evening....and not have to worry about killing ourselves Saturday morning to make it up. Hope this makes sense!

Truly Insane!
Aloha Everyone!
I just began Month 2 of Insanity and it is truly insane! Yesterday's new workout was 59 minutes and today's was 55. Intensity and sweat were off the charts!
Oh, but it hurt so gooood!
The result? Today's weigh-in: 207 lbs. (September goal: 208)

July (Tomorrow's) Goals

Sorry, I meant to post this earlier this week, but it's been crazy!
TOmorrow's the big day again, and I know we are all looking forward to hitting out goals early this weekend on saturday so we can reward ourselves and celebrate the 4th weekend!

July Goal Date!
Howzit, Everyone!
June's been a crazy month again for a lot of people! Me, included!
The great thing is the July 4th weekend is coming up! What better motivation than to hit your July Goal this Saturday, then indulge and celebrate your achievement on the rest of the holiday weekend. Party Time! We will all deserve it.
One favor to ask please? Can you all post or email me your July Goals once again please? I have some, but I don't think all, and I don't want to make a mistake. Tim is on travel/injury leave for July Goal date, but everyone else is participating. Let me know, and I will compile info and post it once again, since this is our important week to focus on the finish line on Saturday.
BTW, my goal is to maintain 170 lb weight, and run three miles minimum at a 9 1/2 minute per mile pace.

As previously mentioned, this past month was a really hard one for a lot of people...especially at the end....so many things happening all at once! And therefore, our success rate remains very high....82%, but not perfect like before. We are indeed human as an entire group. And that's why we are all here---supporting each other, helping each other, pushing each other to stay on course. So we have a little money in the pot now....let's keep it that way!

Hi, everyone! I know this was a very hard week for a lot of our group....last week of school, prepping for 6th grade promotion, memorial day weekend parties/food, prepping for travel for some.....but I know you are all working super hard on hitting your goals! It was a tough one for me too....but hit my weight goal (although minimally) late Friday eve/early now Saturday morning. last chance work out
Was at Iolani waiting for basketball practice so tried to make my own "hardass" work out. This would be a sample of what happens there. If you have nothing to do while you wait for your kids you can try this........
warm up - 4 x around track. I ran in lane 5 for the 50 somethings you can choose your lane
work out -
- run (walk, crawl as necessary) all the stairs in the stands
- 10 burbies (down, push up, up, jumping jack)
- 1 lap around track
4 reps.
This was inspired after seeing Terrance's ripped body at the Iolani pool yesterday.

Summer's Almost Here, and Our Next Goal Date Too!
Howzit, everyone! Sorry, I haven't posted anything for awhile...school's ending for all of our kids, or some are back from college, and it is a busy, exciting time for sure! It's easy to get "too busy" to workout or be diligent about our diets, but don't let that happen! Keep up the good work, and get ready for next Saturday's Goal Date. DaBigBigBoy and Steph Dial In!
Aaaah....modern day communication systems...don't you love em? Or at least understand how they work? Well, now i have gotten a text that was missed and an email that finally arrived. AND WE ARE 100% AGAIN IN MAY! Dave T (DaBIgBigBoy) emailed that he hit his goal of 241 (Actual 240.__), and Steph hit goal of ten 30 minute minimum workout sessions in April....and she lost 2.8 lbs! Increased exercise sessions to 45-60 minutes each, and she is doing tennis, jogging and Zumba.
Wow, Gang! Impressive....everyone has hit their goals thus far this year....let's all keep it going! If you haven't posted or communicated your June goal, please do so....keep it up!

Podagee Posting for Yomama
Hi everyone! Sorry, still haven't figured out how to post a blog yet. Anyway, happy to say I have met my first goal (12 workouts this month) and exceeded it by one workout session! Much mahalos to my "sisters", Dapinkfitnessgal and Mrs. Wannabefit, for getting me through my first month. Also, thanks to the Wannabefits for opening up the Saito Gym to us and Coach for encouragement and the P90X workouts (ugh!). Next month my goal is to do 12 1-hour workout videos AND walk/run around Ala Moana Park at least one day. Happy workouts everyone!

Way to go!
Great job everyone! Congratulations!
Out on injury status for the first month and a half was hard, and I just want to say getting back this past month has made me appreciate every workout that much more. Especially working out at Saito Gym with my two "BEBs" (Best Exercise Buddies--YoMama and Mrs. WannaBeFit). It just wasn't the same exercising without you folks (missed all of our moans and "ughs!"). Lots of laughter and fun, I couldn't ask for anything more; that's what this is all about. Thank you all for being such an inspiration!

may results
Ok everyone I weighed in at 189.4 this morning. Over two months have lost just over 6 lbs. Goal for next month 187.
Hardass fitness is still kicking my butt. But don't know if my ass is getting any harder. The hardest part is to get the mechanics of what they are doing correct. My cardio is just ok and but the ever changing excercises are hard to master. Slowly getting better at getting the correct form but have a long way to go.

By the way, thanks for your kind wishes through the volleyball season.
The boys gave a valiant effort, but KS was the better team last night. We played them three times this season...a total of 11 sets; they won 6, we won 5. I think if we played 100 times it would be 50-50...
Anyway, I'll have more time for fitness now!

Three basketball games and one EA Active workout later...212.4! (Of course, it's sweat and water weight but I haven't seen 212 for a while!)

Hope there isn't too much confusion over this, but our Goal dates are the first Saturday each month. Therefore, this Saturday is It! Let everybody know how you are doing this week....post your progress, and let us all cheer each other on. Coming into the Home Stretch, and I know some are right on target, and others are just about there! And some are taking on DaPodageeFitnessDudes' challenge too!

On behalf of YoMama and one half of the Wannabefits (Cindy), we want to thank "Coach T" for his support at the Saito Gym these last sessions. Although, posting the picture from last night, not so much! :-)
It has been a good incentive for us all and appreciate the support. We are one session away from meeting our goal, and with the "challenge" posed by Coach Mike, we MAY at least do an extra session (possibly two) with the extra week until "weigh in" date. (We were hoping we could carry over the extra sessions into next month's goal but Coach T is tough, he just shook his head...no words, just shook his head...but thanks Cindy, for trying!)

Friday Nite Workout at the Saito Gym
Happy Easter, Everyone! How's everybody doing out there? Remember, post your updates on this blog to let us know how you are progressing...and to give us all inspiration!
Speaking of inspiration, the Trifecta Ladies (Cindy, Michele, and Terri) invited me over for another one of their sessions at the Saito Gym on Friday evening. This time we did "the firm" dvd (killer on the hips guys!), and ended with some ab work from Tony (P90X) Horton. Fun all around....and i heard they did it again on Saturday afternoon....you go girls! You are truly inspirational!
Next time, I'll try to get Wendell to take an action photo while they're not looking! :-)

Tuesday Evening at the Saito Gym!
Aloha, All! I know a lot of us are super busy this week with the Iolani Fair, but just wanted to thank the Wannabefits (Cindy and Wendell) for inviting me to the Saito Gym on Tuesday evening. Yomama, PinkFitnessGal, Cindy, Wendell (yes, Sarge, too!) and I did the hour "Core Synergistics" workout from P90X AND (cause the girls weren't done yet) the "Ab Ripper" DVD from Tony Horton also. Man, these girls are intense! Love it! Maybe we'll schedule more fun, group workouts like this in the future. It sure is easier to keep on going when everyone else in the room is "bringing it" the entire time.

May Goals Please
Hey, gang! Just a reminder to email or text me your May Goals so I can post asap. I have quite a few, but not everyones yet. And don't forget DaPodageeFitnessDude's challenge to us all---add another lb(or mile or workout) to your goal since the first Saturday in May is almost 5 weeks away vs the normal 4 week period.

Cindy has done it again! She has recruited Terri Hanaoka, fellow Iolani parent and jogging partner, into our eager group. And these two plus Michele have formed their own little workout mini-group. This trifecta has committed to complete 12 Full Body One-Hour workouts (The Firm tape series) by May 6th. Their commitment is reaffirmed at $100 each for this terrific goal!
Great idea, ladies! I think da boys might have to have a few joint workout sessions in the future too....I hear John's workout area calling!

Extra Time...
Aloha Everyone!
I believe, according to the fine print bylaws of HO40F, we all have an extra 6 days in May.
PakeDude correct me if I'm wrong...May 1 is a Sunday and aren't we weighing in on the first Saturday of each month? If this is the case I'd like to lay down a friendly challenge...
BLOW YOUR MAY GOAL OUT OF THE WATER!
Don't sit back and think, "Oh good, I have 5 weeks instead of 4. I can cruise this month."
Think, "I'll hit my May goal by May 1, then drop at least another pound in that last week!"
(No penalty if you don't do the extra pound...)
My real May goal = 215 lbs
My extra week goal = 214 lbs

And remember, you set your own monthly goal every month....sometimes it may be to maintain your current weight, or fitness level because you hit your long term goal already, or you overachieved this month, and want to rest one month--then get back to lower lb goal the following month. So long you at least maintain the weight loss you have already achieved.
After I receive the confirmed May Goals, I will post them for all to see.

I was worried myself after dinner at Zippy's with Terrence last night! Although we both had the `ono grilled garlic salmon, no rice, sub in tossed greens, it was rather late in the evening. My weigh-in at 10:30PM was 222.3. It was a nice surprise to see 219.6 this morning after only sleeping! Then I played basketball for a couple of hours and hit the 216.8 you see here...
May Day Goal = 215 lbs.

Big day tomorrow! I had already hit my goal last Saturday (216.8), but the week is long and temptations are all around...I'm glad for these monthly weigh-ins, because past history tells me I would be on the weight loss roller coaster...on the way up...

How exciting! Only three more days until Goal Day this Saturday, April 2nd!
Procedure: Since we have so many first time participants in April, let's try this system: Text me (291-9500) a photo from your phone of your scale with your achieved weight showing as clear as you can. If your goal was not weight, but a fitness goal, just text me with confirmation that you achieved your goal, and someone can verify that if needed. If you don't have text on your phone, please email me direct terrencelau1@gmail.com with your results. That's all there is to it! Simple! But not Easy!
I am really looking forward to this Saturday of hearing all your great news!

Home Stretch Toward Our April Goals!
Aloha, Everyone:
Sorry I haven't posted anything for a while....I hope everyone's spring break went well.
This is a Big Week for our Group! This Saturday is Goal Day--time to measure ourselves against our April Goals. I hear some of us are doing great, and some just need this last week to get there!
Injury update: PinkFitnessGal (Michele) is still on mend...in PT for knee rehab...will update us on May Goal. John had to take about one week off for back, so awaiting word if he needs to add on week to Goal Date. Be safe everyone.....(especially at our age!) we're in for the long haul. Please take care.
But other than that..........NO EXCUSES! We're all here to support each other. Post comments and let us all know how you're progressing.
I'll post later in the week about verifying goal achievements.....until then:

New Design
Sorry PakeDude, but the hummingbirds weren't doing it for me...HA!
I fiddled with the design of the blog, choosing a basketball background...I may fiddle some more later to be more inclusive, but I haven't been able to attend my weekly pick-up game for 2 Saturdays in a row! I need my fix (so I had basketball on my mind)!

Welcome my "little sister", Stephanie Obatake, to our fine group! Her April Goal is to work up to "working out 3x/week for 30 minutes minimum each workout!" She's already getting close, and has already cut down on the white rice this past week....awesome! I will get her access so she can post individually too.

Well, due to time constraints (like i gotta get to sleep soon!) I will briefly summarize our groups achievements here for March. Hopefully within the next few days I will get technical help and figure out how to put this all on a chart/excel grid that i can use on this blog.

March Updates Coming Soon
Hey, gang! I have to gather some more data, but will update blog by tomorrow with March updates....Everyone doing great! Injury and Sickness Clause
Hey, Fitness Family! Happy Girls' Day! You all are doing awesome! At least that's what I'm hearing second and third hand...keep up the posts to this blog.....big weekend for the first three amigos (Mike, John, Terrence) coming up. The rest of you have set up your April goals nicely.
Just a note, in fairness to everyone, if you get sick or especially injured, please don't overdo it. Mike and I set up a "sickness/injury" clause--if you are sick or injured, please take care, and add in the days you are out to the next goal deadline. We only compete fairly....we'd never take from a sick or injured member. Well, at least not yet! haha!
Along that line, Michele may need some extra days as she is seeing doctor soon for knee injury. NO Cindy, that doesn't mean you get to add in days too....ur still 4/2!

Okay, Wendell and Cindy have called us all out! "No excuses" from Cindy, and Wendell has officially weighed in at 201lbs....with 2lb weight loss per month (so April 2 goal is 199) for one year, or till he hits 180 lbs....then will maintain.
